Hello from middle of the cardboard boxes and packing :).

It was fun for the girls to get the scissors out for a change and use their hands and creativeness in a new way in this weaving project. Both girls carefully chose the recycled materials that they wanted to use.

Out of all materials Ella and Anna-Sofia were most fond of the pages from a Tate Modern membership magazine. Ella to the point that she wanted to do the whole project with strips of cut pictures from that magazine. Tate Modern was a weekly happy place in London especially for Ella. Once a week, we were spending time with Ella and her little brother there waiting for their sister who was attending a choir rehearsal across the river from the museum.

Ella carefully placed the strips on her artwork so that the desired elements of the pictures would show. She loved the colours of her artwork and thought that a picture of a double-chinned man was very funny. Anna-Sofia wanted to include elements of one of her hobbies in the weaving art work, so she cut out some strips of her old piano notes and mixed them with strips from the museum magazine. She particularly liked the spacelike effect of one of the pictures and also wanted to include a picture with a British flag on it.

The girls included personal favourites in the details of the weaving artwrok. We talked about it how all those little details make a picture that looks complete in its own way. It needs to have all the tiny elements to look how it does. Every single detail has an important role. It’s like that in every individual too. All those details make us who we are.

Also, we talked about how the weaving process represents the reality how we’re weaved together with others. Each individual is part of a community and we build a beautiful picture together. We’re connected and weaved together by relationships; all showing ”strips” or ”squares” of us in that bigger picture.

Hope you’re well and have a lovely start for the new week!
